Car Camping Tips
Battery Drain Game (Certain Models Only)
Here are simple directions on how to use a carabiner to turn off interior lights when the tailgate on my 2015 Forester is open for extended periods of time.
● Open the tailgate.
● Insert the small end of a carabiner into the locking mechanism.
● Push the carabiner in until you hear TWO clicks.
● Wait about 30-45 seconds for the interior lights to go off.
● Celebrate!!!
How To Unlock the Carabiner Thingy in the Lock on a Regular, Normal Liftgate That Doesn't Have a Fancy Push-Button Automatic Liftgate
● Unlock the doors & lift gate.
● (Even though it's probably unnecessary.)
● Touch the button on the liftgate that opens the liftgate.
● Be amazed when the carabiner instantly falls out.
● Find the carabiner that you launched out of the lock.
● Be in awe of these directions and share them with others.

Car Camping Tips!
Basic Car Camping Gear
Some people don't need much gear to car camp but here are some common things people use when car camping in the subie!
Mesh window screens, USB/Battery operated fans, sleeping bag, air or memory foam mattress, insulated cooler, extension cords, power banks like Jackery, Ecoflow, water jugs, cookware, Propane stove, folding camp chairs.
Research where you will be camping!
You will want to make sure where you camp actually allows car camping as some members have stated that certain places do not allow car camping. You can sometimes get away with putting up a small "pip tent" as a decoy (for gear etc.) and you may not be bothered if you sleep in the car.
Apps like AllStays, Hipcamp, The Dyrt and Campendium are great resources for finding a campsite for cars and tents alike. For federal campgrounds, check out recreation.gov.
Is the Subie car camping ready?
Make sure that your car is ready for car camping (and a long trip if you are driving a long distance). Make sure to full of the gas tank/Charge up that battery. Check your tire pressure, oil and top off any other fluids before you head out!
